Curated by Erin Joyce

ASU Art Museum, Phoenix, AZ
The collaborative work of Yasue Maetake and Andrew Erdos “Amorphous Terrain” series leans into observations of natural phenomena and materiality. Industrial and traditional craft processes, handmade materials such as glass and aluminum, found objects such as copper pipe and steel fragments and organic matter such as anthracite and PVA coated kozo-washi, and pigments from verdigris & steel rust are combined to create the sculptures. The work(s) exist both as site-specific installation and individual objects – allowing for both micro and macro readings of the sculptures. The works visuality suggests the detritus of industrial production all while also bringing to mind ecological forms and structures such as mountain ranges and underground bodies of water.
